Blossoming is a change of tone for the lessening. Other then the undulating glistening piano of the title track (a new solo piano improvisation from Pete, similar in tone to the previous two albums), the rest of the tracks are remixes, taking the emotive minimalist piano musing of Peter Sené’s albums (Lessening and Lessening II), and letting other artists transform them into new pieces of art.

As Pete says:
“Towards the end of the ridiculous year that was 2020, a friend of mine suggested I reach out to a couple of artists I love to see if they would be interested in remixing some of my ambient piano improvisations from the first two albums. I had no expectations as to what would happen and if anyone would even be interested but I was fascinated by this idea of something that captured a single emotive musical moment in time being transformed into a totally new piece of art, turning my monochrome melancholy into glorious technicolour. When I heard what the artist’s who took part in I was blown away.”

And the remixes are quite the transformation. Alt-pop trio Rampton Prom vibey-sampleflip of the peaceful “Hymn for the Tarn” into a dark, synth and lazy-groove fuelled masterclass of production, complete with Gina Baloney’s captivating voice and a recorder solo (naturally); Oxford-based indie/electro/afro-pop band 31hours miraculously transform the Nyman-esque melancholy of “Alternate” into a track full of wonderfully jittery and dancing nostalgia that could easily have sat happily in the soundtrack to “Spaced”, and finally dance outfit IOE AIE take the fragile purity of Unresolved, elevating it to a beautiful banger echoing the sunrise over the festivals everyone was so desperate to be at in the summer of 2021 following a year of isolation.

As with previous albums, each track has been paired with a series of brilliant macro-photography by Jamie Allen. All proceeds from Bandcamp donated to the mental health charity, Mind.
